“Return To Gabe’s Cave!”- My Series 5 Sketchcards

Hey, gang- I’m back with the latest sketchcards I did for Gabe’s Cave.

This is the second set I’ve done for the Gabe’s Cave giveaways on YouTube. While I was working on this set I got a new (and FREE) banner from Gabe’s Cave to use at shows and events.

Last time I did 15 sketchcards (plus 2 artist’s returns) for their 4th series/season, and you can see some of them on the banner they made for me. (You can see my post about those sketchcards here.)

This summer I got to talk to the man behind Gabe’s Cave ,Gabe’s dad- Marty Rosson. We did an interview video for their YouTube channel.

We also gave away my sketchcards to some lucky winners, and a Cave Dweller Loot Box to a “lucky loser” (think Collector Corps types of boxes).

If you’d like a chance to win some free sketchcards (including my series/season 5 ones) or a loot box here’s how…

At the end of the video my name and Instaqgram handle were listed in the scroll credits along with the other official Gabe’s Cave artists. They have lots of other “Meet The Artist” interviews and sketchcard giveaways on their YouTube channel, plus some tours of the shop and original Gabe’s Cave attic room. Keep an eye out for some of my sketchcovers in those videos.

This time I wanted to draw characters some of my favorite superhero/comics inspired TV shows and movies.

I drew some of them at our Mid-South Cartoonists Association (MSCA) Drink-N-Draw and Sat-Art-Day events at 901 Comics East.

Each of my sketchcards were hand drawn on official Gabe’s Cave blanks.

I started off with pencil (HB) on each, and then used markers to color them.

I was using a variety of design makers, including Copics and some that my friend Vicky gave me for the MSCA. After colors I used a white Gelly Roll pen for hightlights (and outlines on a few).

On a few cards like the Isis, WW, Spider-Man, Hero At Large, and Captain Chaos ones I added some shiny effets with a mettalic gel pen.

I used a black Pigma Micron pen (01 and 03) for the detail lines, and a white Prismacolor pencil for more highlights and blending.

Once the art is complete, then I spray some Krylon workable fixative to protect them. Just a couple light coats- nothing heavy. I usually place them on my clip board or a piece of carboard and take them outside to spray. A beer flat box is great for it, too. For shipping I put each in a clear “penny sleeve”, and then packed them back up in the box they came in.

I’ll have some more Gabe’s Cave returns available later. If you’re interested in puchasing any of my sketchcards or sketchcovers, be sure to swing by The Cellar out on Bartlett Boulevard (near Bartlett Park and Stage Road)…

…or stop in at 901 Comics East on Macon Road. Lots to choose from, and you may just run into me there.

I’ll also be selling some of my Bats” trading card packs and miscellanious art prints with some of my fellow MSCA members at the Halloween Comic Fest at 901 Comics East this Saturday.

There’s lots of local creator comics and some art books available for sale. I’ll be set up from noon-4pm, but there will be a 20% off sale all day and free comics, RRParks Cards trading cards while they last.

I’ve heard that Gabe’s Cave has lost their sponsor for the giveaways, so these free sketchcards and “Meet The Artists” videos may not last long. I do hope they can acquire another sponsor and continue the giveaways and artist interviews. I had a lot of fun doing the two series and Zoom interview with Marty. Maybe one of these days I can get down to see their amazing comic shop and new food truck park addition. If you’re in their neck of the woods in southern Arkansas be sure to check them out in person. Tell ’em Lin sent ya!
