Well, had a busy weekend last week.
First Nicki and I went by Comics and Collectibles for the Eric Powell signing. Eric’s the creator of “The Goon” published by Dark Horse Comics. He’s also done a lot of work for Marvel and DC. I’ve met him a few times before at San Diego and he’s a friend of my friend Norton, but this was the first time I’ve met him in my LCS.
He and his roller derby lady Rambo were down from Nashville for the signing and to take on our local roller derby team (ours lost).
Eric signed several comics and my “The Mist” DVD cover (Eric is in the special features- check it out!).
He also did a free head sketch for Nicki and me both!
You can check out more of Eric’s work at http://www.thegoon.com and Comics and Collectibles can be found on-line at http://www.memphiscomics.com – Thanks Eric and C&Cs!
The next morning I got to head up to Nashville with Nicki. We stopped at the Parthenon on the way into town. This place is awesome! Plan on going back to tour it and not just take pics.
We also got to see another famous tourist attraction…
Late Saturday night we got to catch my ol’ buddy Bob’s band Phoenix Rising play.
The gig was at a charity biker rally and the band was great. Even Tommy Tutone played a few songs after Phoenix Rising (but not 867-5309/Jenny). I had a blast taking pictures and getting to catch up with Bob. Glad Nicki and Bob finally got to meet.
The next morning we were able to have brunch with Bob and his girlfriend Stephanie.
We had a great time getting to know her and finally had to call it quits after an hour or so when we noticed folks were starting to line up out the door of the restaurant to get in- it’s apparently a very popular place!
After we said our goodbyes we headed downtown. I saw the bat-building, the riverfront, the stadium, and more. We stopped at Bicentennial Park. We watched the kids play in the fountains, walked the giant map of Tennessee, and met a couple from Hernando, MS.
Our last stop before heading back to the M-town was The Great Escape.
Can you see why I love this girl..?!
There are a ton of things to do in Nashville, and I can’t wait to get back to see more of the town. Hockey season is just around the corner!
Type at ya later,
Lin
