A Muppet Of A Monday- My Muppet Sketchcards

Hey, gang- I’ve been on a bit of a Muppet kick when it comes to drawing sketchcards lately.

We’ve been doing MSCA Sat-Art-Days and Drink-N-Draw nights in the back gallery room at 901 Comics East.

And so far we’ve had great turnouts for the events- unfortunately we had the lights go out twice because of power outages caused by some storms thay had blown through the midsouth.

We were able to find some battery powered light sources and between them and the emergency flood lights we were able to go ahead and continue drawing. Of course the power and lights came back on just as we were wrapping up.

First up was a Beaker sketchcard. I started off with sketching him out in pencil using a click pencil with HB lead. I then broke out some makers. My friend Vicky gave me a tote full of markers and other art supplies. We’ve been using them for the MSCA drawing events.

I continued with the makers- working some shades of green, blue, pink and orange.

I did the black linework with a Pigma Micron pen, and white highlights with a Gelly Roll pen and Prismacolor pencil.

It’s been fun tryoing out other markers and there are lots of colors to choose from- thanks, Vicky!

Next up for me was the Swedish Chef at one of our Sat-Art-Days.

Again, I started off with pencil, and then broke out the several bags of design markers.

Once I finished the colors I finished it off with my Micron and Gelly Roll pens and a Prismacolor pencil.

Once done with this card, I sprayed it with fixative when I got home. Did the same for the others as well.

For Scooter, again it’s pencils and then markers…

…and more markers…

…and a bit more markers. Then I did the inking with my Micron pen.

Then finished it with white gel pen and colored pencil. I did all three on MSCA sketchcard blanks and will have them available for sale at the upcoming Memphis Libraries Comic Con on Saturday, May 6th (Free Comic Book Day) at the main library on Poplar Avenue.

I’ve got more sketchcards coming up, and we’ve got more drawing events at 901 Comics East coming up, too. Be sure to follow 901 Comics East and the Mid-South Cartoonists Association on Facebook. Hope you can make it out sometime.
