SMT/Suspicious Mind Trick members Tim Brown, me, Nicki Howe, and Traci Brown (Rhonda Platania and Mike Peltonen not pictured) made local artist Jim Hall and Honorary Member of the Memphis Star Wars Fan Force.

Jim was signing copies of his latest comic “Star Wars: Purge- Seconds To Die” at Comics and Collectibles here in Memphis.

Jim had some original comic art on hand for folks to check out.

He also had comic scripts there, too- so Tim, Traci, and Nicki finally got to see a John Ostrander script in person.

SMT president/Memphis Star Wars Fan Force Chapter Rep Nicki “Darth Sunshine” did the honors of presenting Jim with his official certificate for his wok on Star Wars comics Purge and X-Wing Rogue Squadron.

The first Honorary SMT Member was Billy Dee Williams. Since then Star Wars comic writers John Ostrander and John Jackson Miller, comic book artist Dean Zachary, and fan Anakin Grayson Wade have been inducted here in Memphis.

Speaking of Honorary Members, Dean Zachary (artist on Star Wars:KOTOR) stopped by the shop to check out the signing (and talk about Wonder Woman with Nicki). He and Jim both have been doing comics here for years now for Dark Horse, DC, Marvel, and more!

We’ll have a Blues Christmas on Broad Avenue!

Time for another “first annual” Broad Avenue Art Walk-

This Friday, December 4th from 6-9pm, George Hunt will be the featured artist at West Memorials (my day job- 2481 Broad Ave.). His show “Blues on Broad” will be part of the First Annual Broad Avenue Holiday Art Walk. George is well known for his great blues/jazz/Memphis themed paintings. (Imagine if Picasso had grown up as the son of a southern share-cropper.)

Nicki shared an article with me this week where Gail Simone mentions me and the Green Arrow painting I donated to the John Ostrander auction.

THE ONLINE AUCTIONS

“First, we have a Green Arrow painting by the talented Lin Workman. I had the good fortune to see this delightful caricature at the Superman Celebration in Metropolis this year, and it’s simply gorgeous, a must for any GA fan.”

Wow- thanks, Gail!

Chicago Comic Con
Saturday night, August 8th
7:30 – 9:30 PM
John Ostrander Auction Sponsored by Comix4sight.com

Room: International Ballroom B

Price: $15.00
John recently under went a surgical procedure called Glaucoma Filtration Surgery (trabeculectomy). The surgery is a treatment when medications cannot lower eye pressure enough. Excess interior fluid in the eye or pressure erodes the optic nerve – that’s basically what glaucoma does. Over the past several decades, John had grown resistant or allergic to some of the meds he had been taking that have kept the pressure down.

John could not afford the surgeries on his own. At Chicago Comic-Con, Comix4sight.com is joining forces with Wizard Entertainment to hold a charity auction the evening of Saturday August 8th. The goal is to raise sufficient funds to help cover the costs of John’s treatments and it is John’s expressed wish that should we raise funds above his needs, that excess money is to be donated to The Hero Initiative to help them continue their great works aiding comic creators in their times of need.

Any admission charged at the auction covers the cost the hotel is
charging us as well as a small donation to the fund. Wizard or anyone
besides comix4sight is not making any money from the tickets sold.

And we decided since the auction is being held at a time that doesn’t
allow for people to have dinner and such that food and an open bar
would be attractive.

Ooh- looks like there will be a bar and some food. Wish I could be there!
