Hey, gang- I hope you all had a happy and safe Independence Day weekend. For our dog Koda it was his first 4th of July celebration.
It was really hot this week, but we did get a few times to go outdoors when it got a bit overcast and the sun wasn’t completely frying us.
When it was hot- or raining on the 4th, we stayed inside and worked on Nicki’s new cedar greenhouse- with Koda supervising. Nicki’s been keeping an eye on it at Walmart and it finally went on sale. She got it for a little over $30 which is about 1/3 of the original price. It will replace our plastic one we’ve had for a couple years now, but we’ll hang on to that one for emergency cover in case of future frost/ice storms. We’ll be adding some concrete pavers under the new greenhouse and in front of it, plus a planter on either side.
Nicki recently ordered Koda a snazzy new star spangled bandana to wear for America’s 250th birthday.
He looked very spiffy and patriotic wearing it. He wasn’t crazy at first about having it tied around his neck, but soon got used to it.
It’s definitely going to have to be washed now..!
Last night Koda went outside with us to watch the fireworks going off back behind our house. He did really well and didn’t freak out at all, but we all jumped when a couple shot off from across the street from us exploded directly over our house..!
He’s been really good about dealing with storms, too. He’ll bark when one is moving into our neighborhood, but has gone outside to watch some storms north of us over Memphis. He just runs around doing zoomies while Nicki and I take pics of the storms.
I was also very proud of our cats Lex and Lena- the Luthors. This weekend they both weren’t really phased by all the booming going on outside and even hung out in the living room with us. Koda and the Luthors have gotten better about being in the same room together, and have even been known to beg for treats together.
“Cats and dogs living together- mass hysteria..!”
He’s gotten so big lately, but is still is a goof. He loves playing in the backyard, and is really good about letting us know when he needs to go outside. I just wish it wasn’t at 1-3am sometimes..!
He likes hanging out with us while we garden, saying “Hi!” to the dogs next door, doing zoomies, and playing soccer- he and Nicki watch a lot of World Cup these days.
He also loves going for walks around our neighborhood, going shopping, and getting a pup-cup from Starbucks on the way home.
Nicki got him a new dog bed, and he loves it and his squeaky toys.
He’s also learned that his legs are finally long enough to get up on the couch and loveseat, and he spends just as much time on them as he does his bed or the floor.
We had him come to live with us back in March when he was about 3-4mos old and he’s growing so fast. He has gone from being our little bear cub to looking like the big bad wolf…and is still growing!
So happy to have this boy as part of our family.
