“Two, Two Sketchcards…!” – My Latest Sesame Street Sketchcards

Hey, gang- got more Muppets from Sesame Street for you for this Monday.

I’ve drawn several Muppet sketchcards in the past, including Count Von Count and an Oscar the Grouch for my wife Nicki.

First up is another sketchcard of The Count. I started off with a yellow #2 pencil on one of my custom personal sketchcard blanks.

I then got out my Copic markers. I started off with some purpled for the face and cape, and some browns and yellows for the background.

After finishing coloring the card, I used a black Pigma Micron pen for the line art and the figure, and kept the background free of any penwork to help give the card a bit more depth.

I used a white Gelly Roll pen and Prismacolor colored pencil for the highlights, and used a silver uni-ball Signo gel pen for the Count’s monocle, which gave it a bit of a special effect when the light hits it.

For my latest Oscar card I started off with another personal sketchcard blank and a #2 pencil. I love sketching with just a basic yellow pencil. I’ve got other drawing pencils or various leads, but the #2 HB is my favorite to use.

After I had Oscar sketched out, I used various green Copic markers to start coloring his mossy complection.

I used a brown Letraset marker for his unibrow, and some more Copics for the gradient background.

I like to use an 03 Pigma Micron pen for my linework on sketchcards and sketchcovers, and a 5 or 10 white Gelly Roll pen for highlights.

I came back over some of the white highlights with light green, hit a few more gel pen highlights, sprayed a little bit of Krylon Workable Fixative, let it dry, and then used a white Prismacolor pencil to finish off the highlights. A light dusting of spray-fix helps to give the card a bit of a tooth for the colored pencil. When I was done with both cards I spayed them both with a light coating of the fixative, let them dry, scanned them, and uploaded to my website.

You can see my previous Count card here, and Oscar here. Up next is my Beetlejuice-Beetlejuice sketchcard..!

I’ll have many of my sketchcards and other art available for sale around the M-town at the Monster Market, Zine Fest, and Memphis Monster Con in October and November.

Hope you all have a great October and Halloween season.

Lin
