Hey gang,

If you follow me on Facebook you know I recently lost one of my best friends- my kitty Zayne. He passed away last night around 9:25pm. Nicki and I held and petted him until he was gone, and then we petted him some more. His body just shut down due to F.I.P. and liver failure.

I’ve had cats in the past and love animals but I’m not what I would have called a “cat person”, but Zayne and his adopted sister Jarael (both named after characters in our friend John Jackson Miller’s Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic comic- one of Nicki’s favorite) changed that the moment we chose them, or as Nicki says, “We didn’t pick them, they chose us.”

They’ve both brought a lot of happiness into our home, and instantly became family. He was only about 8 weeks old (best guess) when we got him (Jarael was around 5 months old), but he already had a personality and shared a lot of affection.

He’s been sick from time to time since we got him in December, but he always was a fighter and would bounce back like he really had nine lives. He would get sick, we’d take him to the vet and nurse him back, and he’d be fine again and playing/fighting with Jarael (like siblings do). Our vet Dr. Pattberg is great, and the folks at the DeSoto County animal shelter couldn’t have been nicer (Hi, Mambo!). He even finally started putting on weight and length and not looking like a “bobble-head” kitty. He was a little pig when it came to feeding time and could shame some piranhas! He could hear the food hit the bowl and be across the house before we could finish pouring it.

But our “karate-kitty” wasn’t just a fighter, he was a lover, too- our “cuddle-kitty”.

They loved to synchro-sleep and nuzzle in Nicki’s hair.

Zayne was also a bit of a couch potato and liked to watch Nicki play video games.

We couldn’t have asked for a sweeter cat or nicer friend.

We’re going to miss our little buddy. The house seemed so empty this morning without him.

Daddy and mommy love ya, Zayne.

Hey gang- this Monday I’ll be on Channel 3′s Live at 9 morning show.

I’ll be on to help promote the upcoming MidSouthCon (Olive Branch, MS next month: March 12-14).

I was on the show a while back talking about Bushi Tales with Alex and Marybeth and had a great time.

Should have some paintings with me and may do a bit of sketching live. Wish me luck!

You can also see one of my Superman paintings in an interview about the con on Fox13 here and here! (Thanks, Carlin!)

Don’t forget- the con is next month (March 12-14) and will have comic guests Gail Simone, Kevin J. Anderson, John Jackson Miller, and many more!

Hey gang-

KOTOR Kitties

Our recently adopted kitties Zayne and Jarael were recently mentioned on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic author John Jackson Miller’s webiste “Faraway Press”. JJM is a former Memphian and is a comics/writer guest each year at Midsouthcon. He’s written for things like the Comics Buyer’s Guide magazine, comics (Star Wars, Iron Man, Indiana Jones), role playing games, and does a web comic called Sword & Sarcasm. If you get the chance to catch one of his panels do, or if you see him running around with his short box of comics at a con stop and pick up a few issues from him. Be sure to tell him Lin and Nicki sent you!

I got the blues for Christmas!

Friday night Nicki and I attended the First Annual Broad Avenue Holiday Art Walk. (That’s a George Hunt original behind us.)

Artist George Hunt had a showing at my day job West Memorials.

George and his wife were on hand (that’s George and me above), as well as several other folks like Greg and Paula Cravens and there sons Gideon and Corey (Paula had a photography show here in October), and Jim and Christina Hall.

We all enjoyed some great art, delicious eats, and some cool blues in the gallery.

Nicki and I walked down the street and checked out a few other participating galleries and studios. It got a bit cold outside so we headed back up the street to my work, talked a bit more with friends, and then headed home.

Had a great time and can’t wait for the next art walk- hopefully it’ll be in the spring.  Until then, I guess this Friday night’s art show at MSCA member Adam Shaw’s studio will have to tide me over. It’ll feature some of Adam’s art as well as others at 2547 Broad Avenue here in Memphis.

Type at ya later,
