Hey, gang- Lex says, “Happy Boxing Day!” To be honest, for him everyday is Boxing Day!
For this “Fallout Friday” art post I’m featuring more of my pieces that are in the MSCA “The Art Of The Game” art show out at the Memphis Jewish Community Center off Poplar Avenue. A few of us went out to the MJCC to hang the show on Sunday afternoon, and it opened on Monday.
There’s lots of local art celebrating all kinds of games in our collaborative art show, including some handcrafted wooden art pieces by the late Irvin Serenco. I’ve got 4 pieces in the art show- “Playing With Your Head” canvas print, “Fallout/Ghoul” marker illustration, “Kick Me” acrylic print, and my most recent airbrushed “Tron/Sark” painting.
My “Ghoul” marker illustration is based on the character Walton Goggins plays in the current “Fallout” TV series on Prime with new episodes dropping each Wednesday. My wife Nicki is a big fan of the show and video games and suggested the Ghoul as my subject for this piece. It was drawn in pencil on Bristol paper, and then colored in various markers (Copic, Ohuhu, Weisbrandt, Touchnew, Letraset, Prismacolor), inked with a black 03 Pigma Micron pen, and highlights with a white Gelly Roll pen and white Prismacolor pencil.
I drew a couple of Nuka Cola bottle caps on the matboard, colored it in markers, inked it with a Micron and gel pens, and did some highlighting with a white colored pencil. I then took some Copic refill and dabbed it around the mat with some tissue, and flecking it with a toothbrush. I added a couple drops of color here and there to finish off the mat.
Once O was finished I sprayed the illustration and mat board with a light spraying of Krylon Workable Fixative. Always best to do light overlapping coats and to spray outside or in a well ventilated area. When it was dry I put it in a frame and wrapped it up to take it off to the gallery (8.5″ x 111″ art and 11″ x 14″ mat/frame).
The art show is on display at the Shainberg Gallery at the MJCC. When you walk into the main lobby of the MJCC, it’s ahead and on the right just as you go up the stairs on the right.
The Ghoul drawing is hanging in the back corner on the right near Irvin’s gumball machine piece.
