Phoenix Comicon 2010

Bob Bretall is joined by guests Al Sparrow, Dave Beaty, and Lin Workman (Me!) in a round table episode of the Comic Book Page Podcast to reminisce about the 2010 Phoenix Comic Con. Listen to the highlights and see why we all think it should not be missed by anyone in the Southwestern US. Also mentioned is the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Nicki’s new website FanGirlWednesday.com, and strange goings on at the Phoenix Comicon’s art auction.

You can listen to the podcast here.
Photos from the con can be seen on the Comic Book Page forums.

Thanks, Bob!

Well, gang- I’m back from our whirlwind tour of Arizona and Utah.

Nicki and I did a bit of “speed tourism” and fit a ton of sightseeing, con-going, visiting with friends, birthday celebration, and even a bit of a family reunion all into one week.

We flew to Phoenix for Cactuscon (Phoenix Comicon) where we met Stan “The Man” Lee and ate at Alice Cooper’s restaurant Cooper’stown, drove up to Prescott Valley to Dave and Micah’s for the night, hiked in Sedona, stopped in Jerome, visited Glenn Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, had ho’made pie at the Thunderbird Restaurant in Utah with my folks on Nicki’s birthday, oohed and awed at Kaibab National Forest, ran into two fellow Memphians at the Vermillion Cliffs, saw a dust devil in Cameron, and were blown away by the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

We even managed to get engaged between all that!

I popped the question as Beetlejuice after emceeing the art auction at Cactuscon on Saturday night- which also happened to be our 1yr 9mo anniversary!

We went down to the Hard Rock with Dave and Micah after the auction and had some celebratory drinks and dinner.

It was a great night!

Pics from Cactuscon’s Preview Night and our flight to PHX up next…

Hey gang-

It got a bit Batty this weekend in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

But we all had an Incredible time at Cape-Con…even without capes!

Ethan Van Sciver was there signing autographs and doing some awesome sketches.

I got a Flash and several Cyber-Frog comics signed-

and picked up more guano for the bat-cave.

Decided to leave the “Exploding Man Peter” in Cape.

The drive up Saturday morning got scary leaving Memphis/West Memphis, but cleared up once we hit Missouri.

Jon Carroll and Jack-Jack drove up from Memphis on Sunday.

Antone and Janet Wade got there on Friday before the reeeeaaaallly bad weather.

Not sure when the Ninja got there…

but Ghost Rider showed up Saturday to meet his creator Gary Friedrich.

Ghost Rider also joined a lot of supers on stage for the costume contest.

Thanks to Ken Murphy for another great show!

Speaking of great shows, Nicki and I will be heading out west to the Phoenix Comic Con (Cactuscon) Memorial Day weekend.

Dave, Bushi Tales, and I got a mention by Cactuson director Matt Solberg on the Andrew Long Show podcast.

If you’re in the Phoenix area Memorial Day weekend stop by the Bushi Tales booth at Cactuscon and say hi!
May the FOURTH be with you!
