I’ve been reading the magazine for years now and have had a few of my paintings and tees featured in their Reader Gallery before.

But I’ve never been THE Reader Gallery- much less have it be a two page spread!

They included many of the airbrushed paintings I did for my one man show last October (at Adam B. Shaw’s Studio), and my website address!

Pg14 has Wicked, Jack, Snape and Bride.

Pg15 has Mummy, London, and Sith Happens.

All paintings were airbrushed with a Paasche VL-3 on canvas using Createx paints and ranged in size from 20″x30″ to 4′ wide and 5′ tall.

This Dracula painting (not featured in the issue) was 4′x4′.

London was 4′x5′ and was the centerpiece of the art show.

Lin/Dork-Vader

Tuesday night I attended Star Wars In Concert – one of the coolest Star Wars events I’ve experienced since my dad took me and my sisters to see Star Wars at a small twin movie theater near Graceland here in Memphis way back in ’77!

This time I went with my girlfriend Nicki (thank you Uncle George) and it was AWESOME! Each time I hear the opening fanfare and see the Star Wars logo on-screen I feel like an 11 year old kid again.

This time Mama Howe chaperoned us two kids.

We joined several thousand other Star Wars fans downtown at the FedEx Forum.

Including some of our fellow SMT/Memphis Fan Force crew.

There were a lot of props and costumes on display in the lobby of the forum.

Some were very still…

…and others moved around a bit more like this 501st member.

Our narrator for the evening was Anthony Daniels, also know as C-3PO.

The concert was a great mix of live orchestral music and choir, lights, movie footage, production art, and more!

Kids of all ages attended and enjoyed it!

Last night Nicki and I attended the SMT Drive-In Night for a showing of The Empire Strikes Back at Memphis Fan Force members Tim and Traci Brown’s backyard.

Timmy fired up the digital projector…

…hoisted up his new and improved (and of course bigger) screen…

…we all kicked back in our lawn chairs…

…and enjoyed a screening of a pre-special edition Empire!

Nicki and I had a great time and are looking forward to the next SMT Backyard Drive-In Night- “Return of the Jedi“!

I’ve got 100 artist sketch cards in the set- and 6 artist returns (above).

Lin/Dork-Vader

After weeks of drawing I finished all of my Star Wars:The Empire Strikes Back sketchcards for Topps this weekend.

Finished #106 late Sunday night and then shipped them all off early the next morning.

These are my artist returns- Nicki’s getting the top left Vader one. Couldn’t have done these without her help. She gathered tons of reference for me, helped me with my paperwork, fed me, kept me juiced on Mtn. Dew and Coca-Cola, and kept telling me, “You can do it!” and “Looks great, Babe!” Thanks to everyone else for being so supportive, too. Special thanks to Steve Stanley for getting me in with Topps, and for David Waldeck at Topps for being so great at getting me approvals so quickly and giving me my first Star Wars gig.

These come out next month so keep an eye out for them.

Looking forward to getting back to the drawing board, but I’m going to take another night or two off before I start any new projects.

Got some cool news. I was interviewed for a new SIVAD/TN horror hosts video this week.

Jerry Lawler, Adam Shaw, and some of SIVAD/Watson Davis’ friends and co-workers were interviewed, too. It was a lot of fun and painless. As soon as I hear anything about its release I’ll pass it along.

I’m have a great time working on these!

It’s funny, I’ve had people ask me how big my originals are and I have to tell them that these are the originals!

My kitty Zayne hasn’t been feeling well and has become a lap-kitty when I draw.

And Nicki’s kitty Jarael has become a klepto-kitty and she steals my markers when I get up to take a break!

I got approval yesterday!

I’m doing sketch cards for Topps’ new The Empire Stikes Back 3D widescreen card set which celebrates the 30th anniversary of TESB’s release. The cards ship in May and you can find out more at Topps.

I’m about half way through my cards and I’ll post more as I get them approved. I’m using Copic and Prismacolor markers, Copic and acrylic white, and disposable tech pens on most, and I pencil them out first. I’ll probably try doing more all pencil ones this next week.

As soon as I get more approved I’ll post them here and my sketch gallery.

Lots of great events happening this weekend paying tribute to Watson Davis, also known as SIVAD- local horror host of “Fantastic Features” here in Memphis back in the late 60′s and early 70′s.

I’ll be a part of a horror art show at Adam Shaw’s studio (2547 Broad Avenue)  this Friday, March 26th from 6-8pm.

Fellow MSCA members Adam Shaw, Greg Cravens, Kevin Williams will be showing their SIVAD and horror tribute art, as well as comic artists Dean Zachary and Jim Hall- and artist/wrestler/former Memphis mayoral candidate Jerry “The King” Lawler.

KOTOR Kitties

Our recently adopted kitties Zayne and Jarael were recently mentioned on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic author John Jackson Miller’s webiste “Faraway Press”. JJM is a former Memphian and is a comics/writer guest each year at Midsouthcon. He’s written for things like the Comics Buyer’s Guide magazine, comics (Star Wars, Iron Man, Indiana Jones), role playing games, and does a web comic called Sword & Sarcasm. If you get the chance to catch one of his panels do, or if you see him running around with his short box of comics at a con stop and pick up a few issues from him. Be sure to tell him Lin and Nicki sent you!

I got the blues for Christmas!

Friday night Nicki and I attended the First Annual Broad Avenue Holiday Art Walk. (That’s a George Hunt original behind us.)

Artist George Hunt had a showing at my day job West Memorials.

George and his wife were on hand (that’s George and me above), as well as several other folks like Greg and Paula Cravens and there sons Gideon and Corey (Paula had a photography show here in October), and Jim and Christina Hall.

We all enjoyed some great art, delicious eats, and some cool blues in the gallery.

Nicki and I walked down the street and checked out a few other participating galleries and studios. It got a bit cold outside so we headed back up the street to my work, talked a bit more with friends, and then headed home.

Had a great time and can’t wait for the next art walk- hopefully it’ll be in the spring.  Until then, I guess this Friday night’s art show at MSCA member Adam Shaw’s studio will have to tide me over. It’ll feature some of Adam’s art as well as others at 2547 Broad Avenue here in Memphis.
